E-Town snaps Nittany Lions three-match winning streak

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team saw its season best three-game winning streak come to an end with a 7-3 setback to Elizabethtown College in a non-conference contest on Wednesday night.

The Nittany Lions drop to 6-7 overall this season, while the Blue Jays won their fourth straight game to improve to 9-2-1 on the year.

The teams combined on five goals in the first 10 minutes of the opening period and then neither found the back of the net until the 72nd minute. E-Town recorded the first goal just 29 seconds into the contest and led 4-0 by the 9:16 mark of the game. Following the last score, T.J. Yurkovic and Dan Zhmurkin methodically worked the ball down the field with give-and-go passes. Yurkovic took the last pass outside the box, took two dribbles and flipped a shot over the keeper coming out of net to make the score 4-1 at the 9:41 mark.

Zhmurkin tacked on a pair of goals in the second half to match his career-high of five points in a game. Marvens Labissiere added the assist on Zhmurkin's second goal in the 89th minute.

Gerardo Sosa recorded five saves in goal, four of which came in the first half.

The Nittany Lions will travel to New York for a pair of NEAC contests this weekend. They will face Keuka College on Saturday, October 15 at 3 p.m., followed by Wells College on Sunday, October 16 at 2 p.m.
