Women's volleyball splits a pair of NEAC games

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team downed SUNY Cobleskill, 3-0, but fell by a similar score to SUNY Polytechnic later in the day to split a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions move to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the NEAC which puts them in the middle of the conference standings. They claimed victory over the Figthing Tigers by a scores of 25-14, 25-11, 25-15. In the setback to the Wildcats, the Nittany Lions were narrowly edged 25-21 and 25-23 in the first two games before SUNY Poly put the match away by a score of 25-15.

Against Cobleskill, freshman Alexis Horst recorded seven kills, six digs, four total blocks, and two service aces. Laken Bankert and Megan Lackman both had a game-high three service aces as the Nittany Lions combined for 15 in the match. Horst, Madison Wojciechowski, Elina Fantilli, and Amia Boone all notched a pair of aces. Janae Barlow and Jen Maxwell both chipped two block assists. Morgan Schwartz tallied a double-double with 20 assists and 10 digs.

Horst and Lackman tied for the team-lead in kills against SUNY Polytechnic with six a piece. Horst and Wojciechowski both tallied 13 digs, followed by Bankert with 10. Schwartz recorded 24 assists in the match.

The Nittany Lions will host Morrisville State College in a NEAC match on Sunday, October 2 at 11 a.m.
