Nixon joins 1,000 point club as Nittany Lions roll past Wildcats

READING, PA - Dameon Nixon became the newest Penn State Berks men's basketball player to join the 1,000 career point club during the Nittany Lions 99-80 victory over Penn College of Technology in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday evening at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions improved to 6-9 overall and 6-3 in the NEAC South Division, while Penn College falls to 3-14 on the season and 3-8 in the conference. The Wildcats built an early 7-4 lead, but Berks quickly erased that deficit and took the lead for good at 8-7 on a layup by Joel Ellison. The Nittany Lions closed out the half on a 22-5 run to take an 18 point lead into the halftime intermission. Berks lead by as many as 29 points in the second period before the Wildcats worked the lead down to 11 points with just under four minutes to play, but that is as close as they would get.

Nixon, who entered the game 14 points shy of the career plateau, tallied eight points in the first half and scored the first five Nittany Lions points of the second half to bring his career total to 999 points. After a technical foul with 17:46 on the clock, Nixon went to the line and drained the first shot to make him just the fourth member in program history to reach the exclusive milestone, joining teammate Christian Burggraf who accomplished the during a win over Wells College last Thursday. Nixon finished the day with a game-high 21 points put him at 1,007 and counting. The senior guard was 8-for-15 from the floor, while also recording seven assists and six rebounds.

Burggraf finished the game with 18 points - 14 coming in the second half - to go along with his seven boards and six assists. Michael Aldridge recorded a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. The 19 boards, which surpassed his previous best of 18 that he recorded earlier in the month also against Penn College, is the second most in a game in program history. Nelson Hine finished one shy of his career-high after recording 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor. Baba Waples rounded out the Nittany Lions in double figures with his 14 point effort, while also adding six assists.

The 99 points scored were the ninth most ever in a game and marked the fifth time this season that they have recorded 90 or more points in a game. The 39 field goals made and 24 assists are both the fifth most in a single game in team history. The high powered offense is averaging a program best 83.9 points per game, which currently ranks 40th in the nation.

The Wildcats were led by Landon Muller with 20 points, followed by Bryce Lonsway with 15 points and seven assists. Thomas Ross put up a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 11 boards.

The men's and women's basketball squads teamed up for a Pink Game fundraiser to benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County. Donations were accepted at the door and members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held a half-court shooting contest at halftime of each game which combined to raise $215.61.

The Nittany Lions will look to add on to its three-game winning streak with a home game against NEAC South foe Gallaudet University on Friday, January 29 at 5 p.m. Berks currently trails the Bison by 0.5 games for second place in the South Division.
