Hot shooting leads women's b-ball to road win over Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team turned in one of the finest offensive performances in program-history en route to a 96-83 road win over Cazenovia College in Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

The Nittany Lions tallied 17 points in each of the first two periods en route to a 34-24 lead at halftime. The Wildcats cut into that deficit by outscoring Berks by six points in the third quarter, but the Nittany Lions pulled away with the game with by topping Cazenovia 37-28 in the final frame.

Berks was paced on offense by Deanna Daddona with her career-best 28 points, while Cassidy Schultz and Shanelle Koch both chipped in a season-high of 26 points. Daddona went 4-of-7 from 3-point range and was 10-for-13 at the free throw line. The freshman guard handed out a career-high eight assists to go with her fifve rebounds, and one steal. Schultz was 3-of-4 from long distance and continued her hot shooting at the charity stripe, where she was 6-for-7. Koch was 12-for-13 at the foul line and also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while recording a career-best six blocked shots.

As a team, the Nittany Lions shot 40.3%  (27-67) from the field, 60.0% (9-15) from 3-point land, and 82.5% (33-40) at the foul line. The 96 point effort was the second most in a single-game in school history, trailing the 97 points scored in a win over the College of Saint Elizabeth on January 26, 2014.

The Nittany Lions will finish off their New York road trip with a NEAC contest at Morrisville State College at 2 p.m.
