McKinstry nets gamewinner in double OT

READING, PA (September 5, 2015) - Ellie McKinstry was able to sneak a shot into the far back corner in the 107th minute to cap a late comeback and give the Penn State Berks women's soccer team a thrilling 3-2 victory over Albright College on Saturday evening.

Albright went ahead 2-1 in the 63rd minute and had momentum on their side. They were subbing in fresh legs regularly the rest of the half and had the Nittany Lions worn out. But Berks got a spark when Brennan Moyer drilled a shot from more than 30 yards out that went over the keepers outstretched arms, bounced off the underside of the cross bar and dropped straight down just past the goal line. This knotted the game at 2-all with 2 minutes, 42 seconds left in regulation.

Neither team got any scoring chances through the rest of regulation both managed only one shot in the first overtime. In the second overtime, Paige Elmy recorded two saves to keep the Nittany Lions hopes of winning alive. Lizzie Mummau put a ball in net in the second overtime, but Christine Allison made the stop.

As time ticked away, the Nittany Lions took advantage of a breakdown at midfield and went on the offensive. With the ball weaving from player to player, Dana Sarcinello finally sent a pass through traffic to McKinstry. McKinstry worked her way past the defender and ripped a low liner in front of the keeper that bounced off her hands in into the back right corner.

After a frustrating 0-0 draw in their opener on Tuesday, the Nittany Lions celebrated the triumph of the impressive come from behind victory.

Mummau tallied the Nittany Lions first goal of the season after chipping a shot over the keepers head in the 21st minute, Caitlin Golden assisted on the play. The lead was short lived, as the Lions got a goal from Erica Bross just 1:17 after Mummau's score. The Lions went ahead 2-1 when the Nittany Lions made an errant pass at midfield.
