Women's tennis wins NEAC West Division Championship

Abington, who was the No. 1 seed in the tournament, was the only team that had beaten Berks in conference play this season, winning 5-4 on their home courts on March 29. Abington had won two of the three doubles bouts and needed to pick up just singles wins to clinch the victory. The No. 3 duo of Liz Kurtz and Cassidy Schultz won their match 8-4 to deny Abington the sweep.

Erin Ginther was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 6 singles, it was the first match to be completed and even the contest at 2-all in the race to five points. Nandita Munindra won 6-1, 6-4 at the top singles match, which put Berks ahead 3-2. Schultz was the next match to finish at fifth singles, where she was a 6-0, 6-1 winner.

The match was 4-3 in Berks' favor after Abington was able to pick up a three-set win at third singles. But Marje Robinson came through clutch for Berks with a thrilling comeback win at fifth singles. The freshman dropped the first set by a 6-1 margin, but she bounced back with a 6-0 win in the second set. Robinson then clinched the win for the Berks after taking the decisive set by a score of 6-2. Megan Antosy was leading in her match at No. 2 singles, but it was left unfinished after Berks clinched the victory.

With the win, the Nittany Lions will now face Colby-Sawyer College on Sunday, May 3 at 1 p.m. with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
