Offensive outburst leads baseball team to victory

READING, PA (April 24, 2015) - The Penn State Berks offense sparked the the Nittany Lions to a 20-3 victory over the University of Valley Forge in a non-conference contest on Friday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions (13-15-1) pounded out 19 hits, with five batters recorded two or more hits. Pearce Harhigh led the team with a career-best 4-for-5 showing at the plate to go along with his two RBI and two runs scored. Tyler Comport and Will Budock each were 3-for-6 with Comport scoring three runs and Budock scoring twice. Dylan Gallagher went 2-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored, while Colin Myers added two hits and three runs scored.

Dylen Ziegler, who was 2-for-3 at the plate, tossed six innings to receive his first win of the season. The freshman left-hander allowed one run on four hits, while striking out a season-high seven batters. Mitch Renninger pitched three innings of relief to earn the save. He struck out a career-best four batters and added an RBI double at the plate.

The Nittany Lions will host Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, April 25 beginning at 1 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, the Nittany Lions will honor seniors John Bonino, Connor Corson, Kyle Hartman, and Steve Koenig.
