Baseball strikes late in 11-5 win over Muhlenberg

READING, PA (April 22, 2015) - The Penn State Berks baseball team pulled away with five runs in the bottom of the seventh on its way to an 11-5 victory over Muhlenberg College in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions (12-15-1) tallied eight unanswered runs going from the third inning through the seventh inning. This was the first win over the Mules (12-17) since a doubleheader sweep in 2007.

Will Budock did a little bit of everything to lead the Nittany Lions to the win. Batting in the leadoff spot, Budock went a career-best 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. In addition, the freshman left fielder saved a run with an fully outstretched diving catch down the left field line to end the seventh inning and safe a run from scoring.

Dom Continenza earned the win with a career-high seven innings, scattering six hits and allowing four unearned runs and striking out two batters. Dylen Ziegler allowed one unearned run in the eighth and John Bonino worked a perfect ninth to secure the victory. The pitching did not allow any Mules to record more than one hit and there were only three walks issued.

The Nittany Lions ran wild on the base paths with nine steals on 10 attempts, which is the fourth most in a single-game in program history. Budock and Tom Grablewski each swiped two bags, while Kyle Hartman, Dylan Gallagher, Troy Salerno, Pearce Harhigh, and Keeanu Erb each had one steal.

Cory Fox recorded two hits and drove in two runs, while Grablewski added a run and an RBI.

The Nittany Lions will host the University of Valley Forge in a non-conference contest on Friday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m.
