Nittany Lions nipped by St. Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (February 18, 2015) - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team fought hard all evening, but the College of Saint Elizabeth pulled of a 74-71 victory in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday night.

The Nittany Lions led 46-41 at halftime after red hot shooting from all aspects of the game. In the opening half, Berks shot 60.7% from the floor, 71.4% from 3-point range, and 77.8% from the free throw line. The Eagles battled back in the second half and finished off their comeback bid with a strong performance at the free throw line in the final minute.

Shanelle Koch and Cassidy Schultz paced the Nittany Lions offense with 23 points apiece, while Jaslyn Silva had 12 points. The trio were also responsible for the bulk of the teams assists, with Schultz recording six, Koch adding five, and Silva handing out four.

Koch also grabbed 11 rebounds to notch her 13th double-double of the season. She has accumulated 461 points this season, which is the second most in a season in program history. Koch's 21.0 points per game average leads the conference, is a program best, and ranks 10th in the nation.

As a team, the Nittany Lions shot 84.2% (16-for-19) from the free throw line, which is the fifth highest percentage in a single game in program history. They also drained the third most amount of 3-pointers in a game with nine.

The Eagles were led on offense by Ashley Pledger with 21 points. Amerisse Rogers chipped in 19 points, followed by Alexandria Garcia with 16.

The Nittany Lions will host Wilson College in a NEAC contest on Friday, February 20 at 6 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
