Men's basketball holds on in thriller over Abington

READING, PA (February 11, 2015) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team overcame a huge deficit early in the first half before letting a double-digit lead in the second half slip away, but a career day by Christian Burggraf spurred the Penn State Berks men's basketball team to a crucial 100-91 victory over Penn State Abington on Wednesday evening at Beaver Community Center.

With the win, Berks and Abington are tied for the third and final playoff spot with a 6-8 conference record with four games remaining. Lancaster Bible College leads the division with a 12-1 record, followed by Gallaudet University at 11-3.

Berks eventually took a 51-44 lead into the break were up by 13 points with just over 15 minutes left in regulation. Abington rallied back and made it a 73-72 lead with 10:02 left and after Berks lead fluctuated back and forth the contest was down to 92-89 in Berks favor with 1:11 left. Michael Aldridge, Nelson Hine, and Burggraf each went 2-for-2 at the line down the stretch to solidify the win.

Burggraf poured in 34 points, which is the third most in a single-game in program history. Burggraf, for the second time in his career, matched the single-game record with six 3-pointers made. The junior guard was critical in the Nittany Lions offensive outburst in the first half, where he shot 6-of-10 from the field and was 4-of-5 from long distance for 20 points. Burggraf raised his conference leading scoring average to 19.3 points per game.

Baba Waples shot 8-of-15 from the floor to finish with 19 points to go along with his four assists, four steals, and three rebounds. Dequan Jackson led Abington with 32 points and added nine rebounds. Alex Agyedu chipped in 17 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocked shots, while Max Alton added 15 points.

The men's and women's teams, along with the entire Student-Athlete Advisory Committee sponsored a Pink Game fundraiser.
