Nittany Lions fall in quarterfinals to Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team saw its 2015 season draw to a close after falling, 3-1, to Keuka College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Quarterfinal match on Wednesday afternoon at the Jephson Athletic Complex.

The Wolfpack (12-2-3) got on the board with two goals in the first 22 minutes, but Berks was able to cut that lead in half with a goal in the at the 36:05 mark of the contest. Jon Mercier provided the assist as T.J. Yurkovic tallied his eighth goal of the season to pull the Nittany Lions (9-9-1) within one. But Keuka was able to gain back the momentum with a goal at 38:58 to gain a 3-1 advantage.

Although there was no scoring the rest of the way, there were plenty of opportunities for both teams in the second half. Rotman Saltos finished the contest with seven saves, six of which came in the second half. Tom Ulrich made a defensive stop in the second half to help keep the Nittany Lions in the game. Wolfpack keeper Preston Vick recorded six stops in the contest, four of which were in the second period.

Omar Guzman, who led the team with 12 goals and 29 points this season, had three shots (all of which were on goal), but were stopped by the keeper. Dan Zhmurkin and Kevin Mondi each had shots on target that were unable to find the back of the net.

The 2015 season has been the most successful team in the history of the men's soccer program. The team established program records in wins (9), points (110), goals (41), assists (28), goals against average (2.11). The future looks bright for the men's soccer team with the core group put in place and the recruits that join the team in the fall.
