Men's basketball edged by Alvernia

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team fought until the very end, but found themselves on the wrong end of a 78-72 decision to Alvernia University in a non-conference contest at Beaver Community Center on Tuesday evening.

The Nittany Lions led 42-37 at halftime and were ahead by two points as late as 8:39 remaining in regulation. The Crusaders led 69-62 with 2:40 to play, but the Nittany Lions battled back to pull within two points with :41 seconds to go. Unfortunately, that is as close as Berks would get to their crosstown rival. Alvernia was able to pull out the victory by converting 28-of-42 trips to the free throw line, while the Nittany Lions were issued just 12 trips to the charity stripe, where they made seven shots.

Christian Burggraf recorded a team-high 21 points to go along with a season-high eight rebounds. Nygel Belizaire recorded 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and also had six rebounds. Michael Aldridge grabbed a contest-high 16 rebounds (8 offense, 8 defense), while tallying eight points. Dameon Nixon finished one away from a career-high with his 11 assists to go along with eight points, four rebounds, and two steals. Montrell Gilliam chipped in nine points, while Trevor Ford added a career-high eight points.

The Crusaders were led by Alex Shippen's 25 points, followed by George Sapp and Mike Miller with 17 points each.

The Nittany Lions will host Delaware Valley College in a non-conference contest on Saturday, November 28 at 1 p.m.
