Late surge lifts Nittany Lions over Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, PA (January 31, 2015) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team used a late 15-1 run late in the second half to help pick up a 103-94 win to Wilson College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions trailed by 11 points over the opening six minutes of the game, but the offense got back on track and eventually took 44-42 lead into the break. The lead changed hands throughout the bulk of the second half and the Phoenix led 79-77 with 5:36 left in regulation. Dameon Nixon's jumper tied the game and he converted on the old fashion 3-point play to give Berks the lead and kick started the 15-1 run. Berks led by 15 points with just over 1:30 to play, but Wilson was able to cut that deficit to five points with 33 seconds remaining. The Nittany Lions went 6-for-6 from the foul line over the remainder of the half to secure the win.

The 103 points scored was the highest total this season and the third most in program history. Christian Burggraf, Baba Waples, and Nixon combined to score 77 of the Nittany Lions points. As a team, Berks shot 50% (37-74) from the floor and made 25 free throws which is tied for the second most in a single-game in program history.

Burggraf recorded the first double-double of his career with 32 points and 10 rebounds. The 32 points scored matched his career-best, which is the fourth most in the Berks record books. The junior guard shot 11-of-22 from floor and was 4-of-6 from three point range. He is currently ranked second in the conference with his 18.6 points per game.

Waples established a career-high with 26 points on a very efficient 11-of-17 shooting from the floor. He also added six rebounds and made all four of his shots from the foul line. Waples was a vital part in the second half surge with 18 of his points coming after the intermission. Nixon recorded 14 of his 19 points in the second half and finished the game with seven rebounds. Michael Aldridge, who made his first start of the season, had six points and seven rebounds.

Rasul Jackson had 24 points, seven rebounds, and four steals to lead the Phoenix. Mylan Ward chipped in 20 points, followed by Marqwon Wynn with 18.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Gallaudet University for a NEAC contest on Sunday, February 1 at 3 p.m.
