Crusaders pull away from Berks in second half

READING, PA (January 12, 2015) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team held its ground through the first 16 minutes of the game, but Alvernia University took over from that point on to pick up a 75-48 win in Monday evening's non-conference contest.

The Nittany Lions led 20-19 with 9:31 remaining in the half and the two teams were squared away at 24-all with 5:13 until the break. The Crusaders eventually broke the tie on a 3-pointer with 4:09 left in the half, which was the start of a 13-3 run to close out the half.

Baba Waples and Christian Burggraf led the Nittany Lions with 10 points apiece. Waples matched a season-high in rebounds with eight rebounds to lead the team, while Burggraf grabbed seven boards. Dameon Nixon chipped in nine points and Michael Aldridge recorded eight points and seven boards.

Alvernia received 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor by center Harrison Deyo. Charles Cooper and Lamont Clark added 13 points, followed by Mike Miller with 12.

The Nittany Lions will host Cazenovia College in a NEAC contest on Saturday, January 17 at 3 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
