Nittany Lions score early and often in win over Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. (September 6, 2014) - Brennan Moyer scored the opening goal just 51 seconds into the contest to get the scoring started in the Penn State Berks women's soccer team's 8-0 victory over Cazenovia College during the 2014 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions move to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while Cazenovia falls to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the NEAC.

Moyers goal, which was her first of the season, was the fastest goal scored since Jen Kessler netted one in 56 seconds against Wells College on October 20, 2013. Dana Sarcinello tallied two goals and Katie Warner added one to give Berks a 4-0 lead in the 15th minute. Caitlin Deibler added a goal off of a penalty kick in the 27th minute to round out the scoring in the first half.

Lizzie Mummau scored a goal at 53:34 and just 12 seconds later Chrissy Smith netted the first goal of her collegiate career. Smith then recorded the final goal of the contest when she found the back of the net in the 82nd minute.

Senior goalkeeper Savannah Cramer made one save and combined with Zoe Fletcher for the second shutout of the season. The defensive unit of Warner, Emily Rumpf, Brennan Moyer, and Shelby Baker limited the Wildcats to just four shots - only one on net - to secure the shutout.

Berks outshot the Wildcats by a 37-4 margin and held a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will face Morrisville State College in a NEAC matchup on Sunday, September 7 at 12 p.m.
