Women's volleyball sweeps Alvernia tri-match



READING, PA (September 27, 2014) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team won for the sixth time in seven matches after downing Alvernia University, 3-0, and Immaculuta, 3-1, in a non-conference tri-match at Alvernia on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (7-5) took down the host Crusaders by game scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-21. They got revenge on the Mighty Macs, who had beaten Berks 3-1 on September 9, by earning a win via scores of 25-19, 25-10, 22-25, 25-14.

In the win over Alvernia, Jenny Von Holt recorded a contest-high and personal-best 13 kills, with a very efficient .355 kill percentage. Heleanna Davison continued her strong play with 11 kills. Cassidy Schultz chipped in eight kills, while Colby Jones added seven.

Jordan Heath recorded her third double-double of the season with 38 assists and 11 digs. The sophomore setter also matched a career-high with four service aces. Megan DeAbreu led the Nittany Lions with 16 digs, followed by Schultz with 12.

Schultz enjoyed a career-day in the win over Immaculata. The junior outside hitter set career-highs in kills (17) and service aces (5), both numbers were also contest-highs. She only committed two errors and finished the contest with a .469 kill percentage. Sophia Zhang added 13 kills, followed by Davison with eight and Maria Pavone with seven.

Heath had 46 assists, which was one away from matching her career-high. She currently sits 308 assists away from being tied for the program record, which is held by Glenda Ngo (2009-10) with 1,597. DeAbreu collected a contest-high 21 digs and Jones added 11.

The Nittany Lions return to action with a NEAC contest against Penn College of Technology on Tuesday, September 30 at 7 p.m.
