Late surge lifts women's soccer over Abington

READING, PA (September 10, 2014) - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team sprung for six second half goals en route to an 8-2 victory over Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday afternoon.

Berks (4-1, 3-0 NEAC) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals by Lizzie Mummau and Dana Sarcinello, but Abington (3-2, 2-1 NEAC) was able to even the contest going into halftime after notching a pair of goals in the 35th and 37th minute.

Brennan Moyer broke the tie when she headed a shot over the keeper in the 53rd minute and Chrissy Smith added some breathing room with a score in the 60th minute. Jen Kessler scored two more goals down the stretch, while Moyer added another goal in the 71st minute. Mummau, who tallied the first goal of the game, finished off the scoring with a goal in the 80th minute.

Savannah Cramer recorded a season-high six saves in just over 77 minutes of action. Freshman Zoe Fletcher was untested over the final 13 minutes of the contest.

Abington received a goal from Victoria Parker and Elizabeth Jones in the first half. Keeper Margaret Sheridan finished the game with 14 saves.

Berks outshot Abington by a 35-12 margin and held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will return to action when they host Lancaster Bible College in a NEAC contest on Monday, September 15 at 5 p.m.
