McKinstry's career day leads to win over Lancaster Bible

READING, PA (September 15, 2014) - Ellie McKinstry netted the final goal of her hat trick in the 85th minute, which proved to be the winning margin in the Penn State Berks women's soccer teams 4-3 comeback victory over Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Monday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (5-1, 3-0 NEAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but later found themselves in a 3-2 deficit heading into the halftime intermission. McKinstry evened the game at 3-all with a goal six minutes into the second half and from that point on both teams had a number of scoring opportunities, which neither could capitalize on. That is until McKinstry took a shot inside the six that was stopped by the keeper, Mckinstry stepped up and knocked the rebound into the open net for the winner.

The game-winner was very similar to how McKinstry and the Nittany Lions started off the game. Lizzie Mummau headed the ball over the keeper and it bounced off of the crossbar. McKinstry then tapped the rebound into the net to put Berks ahead 1-0 at the 19:14 mark of the contest.

The Chargers (4-2, 2-1 NEAC) responded with a goal by Monica Lambertson in the 21st minute and Emily Beltran in the 25th minute, Bethany Stein provided the assist on both tallies. Those two goals, along with Mckinstry's opening goal all happened in a span of five minutes.

The scoring frenzy occurred again later in the half, when Dana Sarcinello even the contest at 2-all with an unsassisted goal at 36:17. LBC came right back with Stein giving her team the lead with an unassisted goal at the 37:23 mark of the first half.

Berks was able to outshoot the Chargers by a 29-21 margin and LBC had a 2-1 advantage on corner kicks. Savannah Cramer recorded four saves in goal for the Nittany Lions, while her counterpart, Kaitlyn Scheuing, finished with 11.

The late game heroics by McKinstry are nothing near compared to what came in last season's regular season contest. With the game tied at 1-1, Simone Stewart tallied the game-winner with just 1.9 seconds remaining on the clock.

The Nittany Lions will return to action with a NEAC contest against Wilson College on Saturday, September 20 at 1 p.m.
