Late goal sinks Nittany Lions in season opener

LANCASTER, PA (August 30, 2014) - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team was deadlocked in an evenly fought battle with Franklin & Marshall College all day long in the season opener on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately for Berks, the Diplomats were able to break through with a goal in the 87th minute to earn a 1-0 victory.

The majority of the contest was played in the midfield, as the two teams combined for eight shots on goal. Savannah Cramer finished with five saves, while Caroline Letner and Shannon Johnson-Finn combined for three saves for F&M.

Dana Sarcinello, Brennan Moyer, and Taylor Schwartz each had a shot on target, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Berks held a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will host King's College in their home opener on Wednesday, September 3 at 7 p.m.
