Nittany Lions extend win streak to six games

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 8, 2014) - The Penn State Berks softball team continued its hot play with wins of 12-2 and 10-2 over Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (12-4, 6-0 NEAC) did not waste any time taking control of game one, scoring eight runs in the top of the first inning. Jenna Heffner drove in three runs with a double, while Casey Hafer added two sacrifice flies in the opening inning. Julia Moscato, Abby Staskiel, and Colleen Hoge also recorded an RBI in the first.

Hoge, Moscato, and Heffner all finished the game 2-for-4. Hafer went 1-for-2 with three RBI and connected on the first home run of her collegiate career.

Hafer, the reigning NEAC Pitcher of the Week, pitched a complete-game to improve her record to 6-2 in the pitcher's circle. The junior right-hander scattered five hits, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven batters.

The offensive production continued in the second game with Moscato hitting a two-run homer in the opening frame. The freshman catcher finished the game 3-for-4 with four runs batted in. Chelsea Bright went 1-for-2 with three runs scored and a stolen base, while Missy Lamm was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one stolen base. Rhianna Roulston was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, her first of the season.

Megan Olsen tossed a complete-game five hitter to pick up her third win of the season. She allowed two earned runs and struck out five batters.

The Nittany Lions will host Franklin & Marshall College in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 10 at 3 p.m.
