Hafer, Nittany Lions perfect against St. Elizabeth



MORRISTOWN, N.J. (April 6, 2014) – Casey Hafer tossed a perfect game and the Penn State Berks softball team swept a North Eastern  Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division doubleheader against the College of Saint Elizabeth on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (10-4, 4-0 NEAC South) won 14-0 in the opener and 18-2, both games were halted after five innings due to the mercy rule.

In game one, Hafer put down the Screaming Eagles in order to record the first perfect game and second no-hitter of her collegiate career. In addition, the junior right-hander matched a season-high by striking out 11 of the 15 batters she faced. For the remaining four outs, Hafer put away two ground outs, Chelsea Bright fielded a ground out and Jenna Heffner recorded a fly out.

At the plate, Hafer and Bright each went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a double. Megan Olsen recorded three RBI, while Missy Lamm added two hits and drove in two runs. Colleen Hoge had two hits and scored two runs.

In the second game, Heffner went 4-for-5 with five RBI, three runs scored, two doubles, and two stolen bases. Rhianna Roulston was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and two runs scored, while Lamm chipped in two hits and scored two runs.

Abby Staskiel picked up the win out of the pitcher's circle with 5.0 innings of four hit ball. The sophomore right-hander allowed two runs and struck out four batters.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Gallaudet University for a NEAC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 8 at 3 p.m.
