Nittany Lions sweep Saint Elizabeth on Pink Day

READING, PA (April 26, 2014) - The Penn State Berks softball team picked up the season sweep over the College of Saint Elizabeth after winning 16-5 and 10-2 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions (24-8, 16-2 NEAC South) trailed 4-3, but they put up 13 runs in the third and fourth innings to end the game in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule. In the second game, they scored 10 runs over the first four innings and again ended the game early due to the eight-run rule.

In the opener, Casey Hafer went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and a two-run home run. Julia Moscato was 3-for-4 with a homer, four RBI and three runs scored. Megan Olsen collected two hits and three RBI, while Missy Lamm and Sarah Winton each had two hits and drove in two runs.

Hafer struck out seven batters and improved to 14-2 in the pitcher's circle.

In game two, Hafer was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Moscato drove in three runs.

Olsen struck out five batters and earned her sixth win of the year.

The softball team paired up with the baseball team to raise $322 as they hosted Pink Game fundraisers to help the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County. A special thanks goes out to Giana Sharp , who contributed hand-made bracelets that were sold to help benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.

The Nittany Lions will return to action on Sunday, April 27 at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader against Penn State Abington that will determine who the NEAC South Division regular season champion.
