Softball wins division for second straight year

READING, PA (April 27, 2014) - The Penn State Berks softball team swept Penn State Abington, 4-1 and 10-2, to earn its second straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division title on Sunday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions improved to 26-8 overall and 18-2 in the NEAC, while Abington fell to 18-8 overall and 14-4 in conference. The two teams had split on April 18 and Abington was the only team in the division that had a chance at dethroning Berks, but the sweep clinched the regular season title for Berks.

Casey Hafer continued her dominating season out of the pitcher's circle to improve to 15-2 on the season with a 1.90 ERA. The junior right-hander surrendered four hits, while surrendering only one run. She struck out seven batters and walked just two batters.

Jenna Heffner was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI, while Julia Moscato had two doubles and an RBI. Missy Lamm drove in the other run for the Nittany Lions.

In the second game, Megan Olsen also tossed a four hitter to pick up the win. She allowed two runs - one earned - while striking out three batters.

Chelsea Bright went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two runs batted in. Lamm had two hits and two RBI, while Kaylie Vrabel scored two runs.

The Nittany Lions will await to see who win the NEAC North Division and what institution will host the conference tournament next weekend.
