Nittany Lions earn sweep over Wilson

READING, PA (April 21, 2014) - The Penn State Berks softball team earned a pair of shutouts, 3-0 and 6-0, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division doubleheader against Wilson College on Monday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions (21-7, 14-2 NEAC South) earned a season sweep over Wilson, as they also picked up two wins on the road on Sunday, April 13.

In the opener, Casey Hafer nabbed her 12th win of the season after tossing a complete-game, six hitter. She struck out eight batters, while allowing only five batters reach second base and none beyond that point.

Hafer helped herself at the plate with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third to score Colleen Hoge to plate the first run of the game. Kaylie Vrabel doubled to left center in the fourth to score Abby Staskiel and Jenna Heffner.

In the second game, Megan Olsen picked up her fifth win of the season with a complete-game, five hitter. She struck out two batters and did not issue any walks. Olsen allowed only two batters reach as far as second base.

Olsen had an RBI single in the bottom of the second to score Julia Moscato, who started the inning with a double to left. Heffner drove in two runs with a single to left in the bottom of the fourth. Staskiel followed with a sacrifice fly and two batters later Hoge  drove in Heffner with a single. The final run came from an RBI single by Staskiel.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Albright College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, April 22 at 3 p.m.
