Nittany Lions split doubleheader with Abington

ABINGTON, PA (April 18, 2014) - The Penn State Berks softball team fell 5-4 in the opener and followed with a 9-1 to split a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division doubleheader against Penn State Abington on Friday afternoon at Huntingdon Field.

The Nittany Lions (19-7, 12-2 NEAC South) were able to rally from a 3-1 deficit, but Abington pulled out a walk-off win with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Kaylie Vrabel grounded out to score Jenna Heffner to tie the game at 3-all, and Colleen Hoge followed with a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the seventh. Hoge finished withe game with two hits, while Casey Hafer added two hits.

In the second game, Hafer tossed a complete-game four hitter to earn her 11th win of the season. She allowed only one run, while striking out five batters.

At the plate, Hafer was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Hoge added two hits and two runs scored, while Vrabel had two hits and drove in a career-high three runs. Heffner and Chelsea Bright each scored two runs.

The Nittany Lions will host Wilson College in a NEAC South Division doubleheader on Monday, April 21 at 3 p.m.
