Nittany Lions remain perfect in conference play

READING, PA (April 12, 2014) – The Penn State Berks softball teamed continued on its winning way by defeating Gallaudet University, 13-0 and 10-0, in a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) games on Saturday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions (15-5, 8-0 NEAC) picked up their ninth win in 10 games after getting the season sweep over Gallaudet.

In the opener, Berks wasted no time taking control of the game as they plated 11 runs in the first inning and then tacked on a run in both the second and third.

Colleen Hoge finished 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a double. Missy Lamm also went 3-for-3 and collected two runs batted in and two runs scored. Rhianna Roulston was 2-for-2 with a two-run home run to center field, while Chelsea Bright notched two hits, two runs scored, and a double.

Casey Hafer singled in the first inning to record the 100th hit of her career. She is just the fourth player in program history to accomplish the feat. In addition, Hafer pitched a complete-game shutout and allowed only two hits. The junior right-hander struck out seven batters and only allowed one base runner to get in scoring position.

In the second game, Jenna Heffner was 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored. Julia Moscato smashed a two-run homer to left center field, her third of the season.
Abby Staskiel picked up the win in the pitcher's circle with her five strong innings of work. She scattered three hits and struck out two batters.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Wilson College for a NEAC doubleheader on Sunday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
