Women's basketball downed in overtime by Abington

READING, PA (February 11, 2014) - Amber Hess-Moore hit a pair of clutch 3-pointers in the seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime. Unfortunately, the Penn State Berks women's team could not get any offense generated in the extra period and dropped a 64-61 decision to Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Tuesday evening.

The Nittany Lions trailed 23-22 at halftime and their largest deficit was by six points early in the second half. After several lead changes, Abington took a six point lead with :16 seconds remaining. Berks came down the court and Hess-Moore banked in an off-balanced 3-pointer with 13 seconds to go. Abington missed a pair of free throws to still give Berks hope. Shanelle Koch scooped up the rebound and worked the ball down the court as Hess-Moore drained the game tying shot with just four seconds left.

In overtime, Hess-Moore picked up right where she left off with floating layup just 27 seconds into the period. That is the last basket that the Nittany Lions would score, while Abington added a jumper and went 3-for-4 at the foul line to secure the win.

Hess-Moore knocked down four shots from beyond the arc and finished with a career-high 15 points. Cassidy Schultz connected on three 3-pointers and finished tied for the team lead with 15 points. Koch and Kellie Wilson each chipped in 10 points. Koch picked up a double-double after collecting a career-high 15 rebounds. Khadijah Robinson picked up 10 boards. Keisha Robinson recorded eight points, six assists, and five steals.

Stephanie Keyes, who was 9-for-11 at the foul line and made four 3-pointers, had a contest-high 23 points. Teharah Worrell chipped in 20 points, while Janay Winston added 15. Breanna Lineman grabbed a contest-high 17 boards.

The men's and women's basketball teams hosted a Pink Game fundraiser with all proceeds going toward the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County. Donations were made at the door and during a halftime, halfcourt shooting contest there was a combined $185.30 raised for the evening.

The Nittany Lions will host Wells College for an NEAC contest on Friday, February 14 at 8 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
