Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Strong second half lifts DeSales over Berks

READING, PA (December 10, 2014) - The red hot shooting in the second half by DeSales University was too much for the Penn State Berks men's basketball team to handle as they fell by a score on 80-64 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions rode the hot hand of Christian Burggraf, who scored 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting in the first 20 minutes, that led to a 34-31 lead going into the halftime intermission. Burggraf finished the game with a season-high 24 points on 66.7% shooting from the floor (10-for-15) and from beyond the arc (4-for-6). The junior guard matched a career-high with eight rebounds, six coming in the first half.

Dameon Nixon chipped in 11 points (4-of-7 from the field), five assists, three rebounds, a blocked shot, and a steal. Baba Waples added 10 points, marking his fourth straight game reaching double figures in scoring.

The biggest advantage for the Bulldogs was their ability to get to the foul line. DeSales pulled away in the second half with the help of five "and one" opportunities, converting on three of them. For the game, DeSales was 15-for-24 at the free throw line, while Berks was 7-for-9.

Ryan Callahan was a very effiecient 9-of-11 from the floor and had a team high 22 points. Cody Neal added 17 points, while Kuity Slanger had 13 points, six assists, and three rebounds. Brian Laird came off the bench with three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.

The Nittany Lions will host Pennsylvania College of Technology in the fall season finale on Friday, December 12 at 7 p.m.
