Women's basketball falls in home opener

READING, PA (December 1, 2014) - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team dropped an 85-52 decision to nearby foe Alvernia University in a non-conference contest on Monday afternoon at Beaver Community Center.

The Crusaders were powered by 11 three pointers and hot overall shooting of 47.1% from the floor. The Nittany Lions were also plagued by the 14 offensive rebounds by Alvernia, which saw the Crusaders hold a 19-9 advantage in second chance points.

Shanelle Koch poured in a season-high 21 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor and 9-for-10 at the free throw line. The junior guard also had five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Cassidy Schultz added 15 points, which is a season-high and one point away from matching her career-high. In addition, Schultz pulled down a career best nine rebounds and handed out four assists, both of which led the team. Tenee Pina rounded out the Nittany Lions scoring in double figures with 10 points.

Chelsea Ebersole knocked down four from long distance and finished with 16 points, which tied Tyra Roberts for the team lead. Roberts also grabbed nine rebounds and three steals. The Crusaders had at least one point from 15 of the 16 players that saw the court.

The Nittany Lions will open up NEAC play with a 5 p.m. game at Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday evening.
