Nittany Lions take down Wells in semifinal round

WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 8, 2014) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball defeated Wells College, 3-1, in the semifinal round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship on Saturday afternoon at Gallaudet University.

The Nittany Lions improved to 20-9 on the season, which is the third most wins in program-history. They picked up a 25-12 win in nearly flawless game one in which the offense had 14 kills and no errors on 31 attempts. The second seeded Express (23-11) claimed the second game by a score of 25-22. The Nittany Lions took game three 25-22 and won the clincher by a score of 25-17.

Sophia Zhang continued her excellent run on offense with 19 kills and a .372 hitting percentage. In addition, Zhang racked up her second highest total in digs with 18. Freshman Jenny Von Holt turned a solid 11 kill performance and finished with a contest-high .375 hitting percentage. Cassidy Schultz chipped in eight kills, while Maria Pavone and Heleanna Davison each added seven. Pavone, Davison, and Von Holt combined for four solo blocks and six block assists.

Jordan Heath handed out 44 assists and added two service aces. Megan DeAbreu had a game-high 21 digs and the Nittany Lions collected their second most digs on the season with 82. Zhang (18), Schultz (16), and Colby Jones (15) all finished with double digits in digs.

The Nittany Lions will face off with Gallaudet University in the title game on Sunday, November 9 at 1 p.m. This contest will be a rematch of the 2012 championship that took place at Penn State Berks.
