Mummau lifts Nittany Lions past Alvernia

READING, PA (October 1, 2014) - Lizzie Mummau headed in a goal in the 52nd minute to lift the Penn State Berks women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over crosstown rival Alvernia University in a nonconference contest on Wednesday evening.

The Nittany Lions (9-1) won their ninth straight contest and picked up their sixth shutout of the season.

Berks dominated the contest offensively, outshooting the Crusaders (4-6) by a 15-4 margin and a 9-0 advantage of shots on goal, while the two squads each forced four corner kicks.

At the 51:59 mark of the second half, Brennan Moyer sent in a pass that Mummau was able to head over the keeper to net what turned out to be the game winner. It was the ninth goal of the season for the sophomore midfielder.

The defensive unit of Moyer, Emily Rumpf, Katie Warner, and Caitlin Deibler did not allow Alvernia to get a single shot on net.

The Nittany Lions will return to action with a NEAC contest at Penn College of Technology on Saturday, October 4 at 1 p.m.
