Second half surge leads SUNYIT to win over Berks



READING, PA (January 31, 2014) - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team battled hard, but were unable to hold off a strong offensive attack in a 79-62 defeat to  the SUNY Institute of Technology in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Friday night.

The Nittany Lions held a 10 point lead with 8:03 until halftime and led for the bulk of the first half. The Wildcats used an 18-7 run to close out the half and took a one point cushion into the intermission. The teams exchanged lead changes early in the second half until a layup with 13:52 gave SUNYIT the lead for good.

Shanelle Koch led the Nittany Lions with 18 points of 9-of-16 shooting from the floor. Keisha Robinson and Cassidy Schultz each tallied 12 points, while KHADIJAH ROBINSON added 10. KHADIJAH ROBINSON also recorded six assists, five steal, and five rebounds.

Lauren Knowles led the Wildcats with 29 points while connecting on 11-of-13 shots. Knowles picked up a double-double with her contest-high 14 boards. Abbey Hanehan chipped in 15 points and nine rebounds, while Tierney McGlynn added 13 points and four assists.

The Nittany Lions will host Gallaudet University in a NEAC contest on Tuesday, February 4 at 8 p.m.
