Women's soccer blanks Cobleskill, 5-0

COBLESKILL, N.Y. (September 29, 2013) - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team earned its second straight shutout after defeating SUNY Cobleskill, 5-0, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Sunday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions improved to 7-2-1 overall and moved into a first place tie with Morrisville State College in the NEAC standings with 15 points. They are 5-0 in the conference and have outscored the opposition 27-2.

Ellie McKinstry scored a goal for the second straight match when her shot 4:59 into the contest sailed past the keeper. Steph Martin scored in the 38th minute for her first goal of the season and Dana Sarcinello added a goal two minutes later to give Berks a 3-0 lead heading into the intermission.

Simone Stewart assisted on Sarcinello's second goal of the day early in the second half. The two are tied for the team lead with eight goals scored and Stewart has a team-best four assists. Amanda Garber registered her first goal of the season to cap off the scoring.

The defensive unit of Melissa Bennett, Madi Litwin, Emily Rumpf, and Katie Warner allowed just two shots by the Fighting Tigers. Goalkeeper Savannah Cramer made the save on both shots to give Berks its fourth shutout of the season.

The Nittany Lions will host Wilson College in a NEAC match on Thursday, October 3 at 4 p.m.
