Women's soccer cruises to win over Wilson

READING, PA (October 3, 2013) - Five players scored at least one goal as the Penn State Berks women's soccer team rolled to an 11-0 shutout over Wilson College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Thursday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions picked up their 18th point in the conference standings to move past idle Morrisville State College (5-0) and into sole possession of first place. Berks, who now has an 8-2-1 overall record and are 6-0 in the NEAC, has not allowed a goal in the last 312 minutes, 35 seconds, dating back to the second half in a draw against Alvernia University on September 25.

Cristen French had a career-high four goals scored and also added an assist for a total of nine points. She is tied for the third most goals and points scored for a match in program-history. Dana Sarcinello opened up the contest with two of her three goals in the first 12 minutes. Then French went on a tear with three consecutive goals.

Kristin Starke recorded her first goal of the season when the keeper made a save on a shot by Jen Kessler. Lizzie Mummau tallied two goals in the second half and Kessler was able to find the back of the cage in the 59th minute.

Taylor Schwartz and Melissa Bennett each recorded two assists, while Simone Stewart and French both had one.

The midfield and defensive unit only allowed the Phoenix one shot all game, which Sarah Elmontacir was in position to make the save. Elmontacir and Savannah Cramer have combined on five shutouts this season.

The Nittany Lions will host Cazenovia College in a NEAC contest on Saturday, October 5 at 12 p.m., followed by a tilt with Morrisville State College on Sunday at 2 p.m.
