Women's soccer shuts out SUNYIT

MARCY, N.Y. (September 28, 2013) - Five different players scored second half goals as the Penn State Berks women's soccer team won, 5-0, over the SUNY Institute of Technology in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions improved their overall record to 6-2-1 and 4-0 in the NEAC, while the Wildcats fall to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Berks has outscored its conference foes by a 24-2 margin this season.

After a scoreless first half, the Nittany Lions scored all five of their goals within a span of seven minutes, 48 seconds. Ellie McKinstry recorded her first goal of the season at the 59:20 mark of the game. Simone Stewart picked up her team-leading 8th goal of the season and Lizzie Mummau added the assist in the 63rd minute. Melissa Bennett and Jen Kessler scored unassisted goals less than one minute apart. Dana Sarcinello finished off the scoring frenzy with a goal coming from a penalty kick 23 seconds after Kessler's goal.

Savannah Cramer recorded a save on the only Wildcat shot on goal. Cramer and Sarah Elmontacir combined for a shutout and the Nittany Lions have blanked their opponents three times this season.

Berks outshot the Wildcats by an 18-3 margin, but SUNYIT held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will complete their weekend road trip with a NEAC contest at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, September 29 at 2 p.m.
