Women's tennis falls 5-4 to Immaculata in season opener

Box Score READING, PA (September 18, 2013) - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team suffered a 5-4 setback to Immaculata University in the 2013-14 season opener on Wednesday afternoon at Gring's Mill Tennis Courts. (Boxscore)

All three of the doubles flights were decided by an 8-6 count, with the Nittany Lions snagging two wins. The No. 1 duo of Crystal Hitz and Nandita Munindra defeated Lauren Degnan and Paige Sparks, while Samantha Warga and Gloria Kim won at No. 2 doubles over Kara Trowbridge and Theresa Martini. Sophomore Angie Koval and freshman Erin Ginther played strong at the third flight, but were edged out 8-6.

The Mighty Macs (4-2) took four out of the six singles matches to clinch the win. Munindra finished her collegiate debut with a victory in singles by a score of 6-4, 6-2. Kim pulled out a 7-6 (7-5), 6-10, 10-8 victory at No. 3 singles, with the final two sets being playing in a tiebreak format due to daylight.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Rosemont College on Saturday, September 21 at 12 p.m.
