Zhang leads Nittany Lions to win over Wilkes



READING, PA (September 16, 2013) - Sophia Zhang crushed 24 kills to help lead the Penn State Berks women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Wilkes University in a non-conference contest on Monday evening at Beaver Community Center. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions improved their overall record to 3-2 after picking up the come from behind win. The Colonels (3-7) took the opening game 25-22, before Berks pulled out a thrilling 30-28 triumph in the second game. The Nittany Lions then grabbed wins of 25-22 and 25-21 to clinch the win.

Zhang's 24 kills are the second-most for a single-match, trailing the 26 by Amy Shelton in 2011. Zhang committed just four errors on 45 attacks to finish with a .444 hitting percentage. The freshman outside hitter also added four digs and two solo blocks.

Cassidy Schultz continued her strong start to the season with nine kills and matched a career-high with 18 digs. Maria Pavone added five kills and Heleanna Davison chipped in four.

Morgan Buterbaugh recorded a game-high 27 digs, while Jordan Heath had a season-high 45 assists and added three service aces.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Ursinus College for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, September 18 at 7 p.m.
