Women's volleyball splits at Crosstown Crossover



LANCASTER, PA (AUGUST 31, 2013) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team defeated Crosstown Crossover host Lancaster Bible College by a score of 3-0, but dropped its contest to Elizabethtown College by the same score on Saturday afternoon. (LBC Boxscore) (E-town Boxscore)

First-year head coach John Forry earned his first victory after taking the non-conference tilt against NEAC foe Lancaster Bible by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-18. Berks fell by scores of 25-16, 25-18, 25-17 against E-town, who swept all three of its games in the tournament.

Cassidy Schultz had 11 kills against the Chargers (0-3) and nine against the Blue Jays (3-0), both of which were game-high's. The sophomore outside hitter also registered 13 digs in the win over Lancaster Bible. Sophia Zhang had six kills in both matches, while Heleanna Davison and Maria Pavone each combined for seven kills in the two contests.

Morgan Buterbaugh had a strong with 30 digs and three service aces against LBC and followed it up with 21 digs in the second match. Setter Jordan Heath recorded 23 assists and nine digs in both of the Nittany Lions matches.

The Nittany Lions return to action with their home opener against Immaculata University on Tuesday, September 10 at 7 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
