Women's Volleyball drops season opener at Franklin & Marshall



LANCASTER, PA (August 30, 2013) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team dropped a hard fought battle by a score of 3-1 to Franklin & Marshall College in the 2013 season opener on Friday afternoon at the Mayser Center. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions came out slow with a 25-12 loss in the first game, but they bounced back strong with a 25-22 in the second game to even it at 1-all. The Diplomats (2-0) then picked up a 25-9 victory in the third and clinched the match with a thrilling 29-27 win in the fourth game.

Sophia Zhang made a strong debut with a team-best eight kills, followed by Cassidy Schultz with five kills. Sophomore Morgan Buterbaugh led the Nittany Lions with her 20 digs and four service aces. Jordan Heath recorded 17 assists and eight digs, while Colby Jones added 11 digs.

The Nittany Lions will return to action with a pair of non-conference matches on the campus of Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, August 31. Berks will open the day with a 10 a.m. match against Elizabethtown College, followed by a noon tilt with host Lancaster Bible.
