Faust and Vitelli honored on Senior Day

READING, PA (April 20, 2013) - The Penn State Berks baseball team dropped a pair of home North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests by scores of 2-1 and 10-2 to Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

Prior to first pitch of game one, the Nittany Lions honored Clinton Faust and Nick Vitelli with Senior Day celebration. The duo were joined on the field by their parents and other family members. Each was given a wooden case that a Berks jersey, an action picture, and a headshot from little league. In addition, the pair were given a baseball signed by all of their teammates and coaches.

Steve Koenig, coming off of a shutout last week, continued his strong pitching with another complete-game effort. Unfortunately, he was the tough luck loser in the opener. Koenig allowed two runs - one earned - while scattering five hits. Harrisburg broke through when a bloop single over the infield by Colton Houesal plated two runs. The first run scored with ease and the second came in on the play thanks to a Berks fielding miscue.

The Nittany Lions countered with one run in the bottom of the third, but were unable to get anymore offense going the rest of the day. Christian Marcin reached on a one-out single and advanced to third on a hit by Dillon Landrigan. Faust grounded out to second base to score Marcin from third and cut the deficit to one run.

Tom Grablewski, who finished 3-for-3, led off the bottom of the seventh with a double, but was stranded their when Tom Chaney came in to record the final three outs and the save.

In the second game, Harrisburg tallied a run in the top of the first and broke it open with six in the top of the sixth. Berks responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the hole was too big to overcome. Faust was accountable for all the Berks scoring on the day as he recorded both the RBIs in the sixth with a single to right field.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Gallaudet University for an NEAC doubleheader on Sunday, April 21 at 1 p.m.
