Baseball has win streak halted by Wilkes

READING, PA (April 16, 2013) - The Penn State Berks baseball team dropped a 13-4 decision to Wilkes University in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions (10-17) entered the game on a four-game winning streak, but costly errors and base running mistakes were too much to overcome.

The Colonels (15-11) scored five runs - four unearned - in the opening frame, but Berks countered with two runs in their half of the first inning. The first two batters were hit by a pitch and each moved up on a wild pitch. Josh Spayd then ripped a line drive into right center to score both runners.

Nick Vitelli went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two doubles. Christian Marcin hit a pinch hit RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth.

Clinton Faust struck out four batters in his pitching debut. The left-hander gave up three hits and one run in 2.2 innings of work. John Bonino allowed just one hit in a scoreless inning pitched.

Tom Ring went 4-for-6 with four RBI to lead the Colonels, followed by Tyler Marino's three runs batted in.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Harrisburg in an NEAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 20 at Hintz Athletic Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
