Baseball drops two against Eastern

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 6, 2013) - The Penn State Berks baseball team suffered a pair of losses to Eastern University on the third day of The Cal Ripken Experience on Wednesday afternoon in Myrtle Beach.

The Nittany Lions (2-3) fell by a score of 11-7 in the opener and dropped the second game by a score of 11-1.

In the opener, Berks used a five run fifth inning to pull to cut the Eagles (3-3) lead to 9-7.

Kyle Rissmiller led off the inning with a single and immediately stole second base to move into scoring position. Clinton Faust followed with a chopper up the middle that the second baseman sailed over the first baseman's head to score Rissmiller. With Faust on second base after the error, he was able to score easily as Nick Vitelli hit the first pitch into the right center for a standup double. Ryan Tantala followed with a drive to right center field gap for an RBI double. After a single by Tom Grablewski, Chris Alderfer moved Tantala and Grablewski up a base with a perfect sacrifice bunt. Elias Manzueta grounded out to shot to score Tantala and Phil Anderson singled in Grablewksi to cap the scoring.

The Eagles countered with one run in the top of the six and tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

In the second game, Christian Marcin went 3-for-3 with a triple and one run scored. Keeanu Erb, Dillon Landrigan, and Brian Scharnitz each recorded a hit and Faust drove in one run.

The Nittany Lions will finish off their spring break trip with games against Emerson College (9 a.m.) and Wilkes University (12 p.m.) tomorrow afternoon.
