Women's basketball picks up huge win over Abington

ABINGTON, PA (February 6, 2013) - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team earned a 60-56 victory over Penn State Abington on Wednesday evening in a game that will play a large part in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) playoff picture.

The Nittany Lions (8-12, 7-7) move into sole possession of the third and final playoff spot in the NEAC South Division. Berks swept the season series and will hold the tiebreaker of Abington, should the teams finish with the same conference record. Abington falls to 8-13 overall and 6-8 in the conference.

Fatima Rone continued her stellar play, finishing with a contest-high 16 points. The senior forward has reached double figures in the last five contests and is averaging 16.0 points per game in the span.

Shanelle Koch notched her first double-double of the season after recording 13 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Brittney Mitchell was dialed in from long-distance, knocking down four 3-pointers on her way to a career-high 12 points. Kellie Wilson notched a double-double with 12 rebounds and 11 assists, both of which were career-bests.

Trish Watson led Abington with 16 points, while Janay Winston and Jaclyn Vandiver each added 14 points. Winston grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and Vandiver recorded 11 boards.

The Nittany Lions will host Wilson College in a NEAC South Division contest on Sunday, February 10 at 1 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
