Women's basketball drops home opener to Immaculata



READING, PA (November 20, 2013) - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team suffered an 88-73 setback to Immaculata University in a non-conference contest at Beaver Community Center on Wednesday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions trailed by as much as 18 points during the opening half, but were able to cut that deficit down to 38-31 with 1:16 until the break. Berks was down 10 with 2:08 to play, but that is as close as they would get against the Mighty Macs (2-0).

Shanelle Koch had a season-high 18 points to lead the Nittany Lions offensive attack. The sophomore guard went 7-for-12 from the floor and 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Kellie Wilson chipped in 15 points, three assists and two rebounds. Khadijah Robinson recorded the first double-double of her career with 12 points and a contest-high 15 rebounds. The freshman forward also had three assists, two blocks, and two steals. Keisha Robinson added seven points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals, while freshman Amber Hess-Moore had a season-high nine points.

The Mighty Macs had all five of its starters reach double figures in scoring, led by Brittany Merkle and Adriana Sciascia with 19 points each. Sarah Smith added 15 points, followed by Alison Zimny (13) and Mackie Fitzgerald.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Alvernia University on Saturday, November 23 for a non-conference contest at 1 p.m.
