Women's volleyball splits on second day of NEAC play



READING, PA (October 6, 2013) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team dropped a hard fought battle with Gallaudet University, 3-2, before picking up a 3-0 sweep over the College of Saint Elizabeth in a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Community Center. The Nittany Lions record moves to 9-7 overall and 5-2 in the conference after finishing the weekend with a 3-1 record. The game scores against the Bison (14-8, 6-1 NEAC) were 25-20, 20-25, 19-25, 25-21, 6-15. Berks won by scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25-12 over the Screaming Eagles.

Against Gallaudet, Sophia Zhang recorded 21 kills, marking the fourth time this season that the freshman has reached 20+ kills. Cassidy Schultz chipped in 12 kills, 14 digs, and two service aces. Morgan Buterbaugh was one of five Nittany Lions to compile double-digit digs with her game-high 32. Schultz and Jordan Heath each had 14, followed by Sarah Winton (12) and Colby Jones (10). Heath also registered 44 assists, which is one off of her season-high set against Wilkes University.

Zhang had a contest-high 15 kills against Saint Elizabeth, followed by Schutlz with seven and Maria Pavone with five. Heath handed out 33 assists, while Buterbaugh racked up 31 digs.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Marywood University for a non-conference contest on Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m.
