Nittany Lions split at Lebanon Valley tri-match



ANNVILLE, PA (October 26, 2013) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to Lebanon Valley College but bounced back with a 3-0 sweep of Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon. (Lebanon Valley Boxscore | Misericordia Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (15-12) played better than the score final score indicated against the Dutchmen (25-5), dropping by game scored of 26-24, 25-17, 25-19. In the win over Misericordia, Berks took the match by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-14.

In the opener, Sophia Zhang recorded 12 kills, followed by Cassidy Schultz and COLBY JONES with six each. MORGAN BUTERBAUGH had a contest-high 17 digs and COLBY JONES chipped in 10. JORDAN HEATH handed out 26 assists.

Against the Cougars (12-15), Zhang had 16 kills without an error on 33 attempts. The freshman outside hitter has 376 kills, which is 11 away from the single-season mark set by Amy Shelton in 2010. MORGAN BUTERBAUGH, who shattered the single-season digs record earlier this season, had a contest-high 30 digs. Schultz added eight kills and 10 digs, while Jones had eight kills and eight digs. JORDAN HEATH recorded 41 assists, raising her season total to 867.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Cedar Crest College for the regular-season finale on Wednesday, October 30 at 7 p.m.
