Women’s soccer finishes off perfect run through NEAC

READING, PA (October 20, 2013) – The Penn State Berks women's soccer team downed Wells College, 11-0, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference contest on Sunday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions, who clinched the regular-season title on Saturday, finished 11-0 in the conference and posted a 14-3-1 overall record. The 14 wins match the program record which was set in 2009 and matched in 2012. The Nittany Lions are 21-0-1 in NEAC contests over the last two years and have not lost a regular season conference match since October 15, 2011.

Lizzie Mummau led the offense with three goals and two assists. Ellie McKinstry, Dana Sarcinello, and Cristen French each tallied two goals and two assists. Jen Kessler, who scored just 56 seconds into the contest, registered one goal. Emily Rumpf recorded two assists and Taylor Schwartz had one.

Savannah Cramer and Sarah Elmontacir split time in goal to pick up the ninth shutout of the season. Cramer made a save on the only Express shot that was on goal. Kristin Starke, Rumpf, Melissa Bennett, and Katie Warner continued their relentless play on defense. Morgan Shade and Amanda Garber came off the bench to provide valuable minutes in both halves.

The defensive unit has limited the opposition to just 62 shots on goal this season and only 21 coming in conference matches. In the conference, the Nittany Lions outscored their opponents 79-3.

Berks held a 27-3 margin in shots on goal and a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will host the NEAC Tournament on Saturday, November 9 and 10.
