Men’s basketball has win streak snapped at Morrisville State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. (January 20, 2013) – The Penn State Berks men's basketball team found themselves on the losing end of a battle between the top two teams in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), as Morrisville State College pulled out an 89-71 victory on Sunday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (7-9, 6-2 NEAC), who saw their six-game winning streak come to an end with the loss, lead Penn State Harrisburg in the NEAC South by a half of a game. The Mustangs (11-4, 5-1 NEAC) cushioned their lead in the North Division to 1.5 games ahead of Keuka College.

The Mustangs led from the start and the closest Berks would get was an 11-10 deficit with 14:23 left in the first half. Berks trailed 53-33 at halftime and were able to pull within eight points with 8:25 left in the game, but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way.

Sophomore guard Mike Porter knocked down three 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 17 points. Connor Hough shot 6-of-9 from the floor to finish with 13 points, while Dontez Reid added 12 points – all of which came from 3-pointers. Tom Smith chipped in 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Reid tallied three assists, making him the all-time leader at Penn State Berks with 236 assist. The record was previously held by Adam Fusco, who had 235 assists while playing from 2006-10.

Mickey Davis had a contest-high 19 points, followed by Kucjok Ater (16 points) and Jailaan Kinsey (15 points). Kinsey and Brandon Hanks each recorded seven assists. Hanks also finished with a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will return to action on Saturday, January 26 with a NEAC South Division contest at Lancaster Bible College. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
