Women's basketball drops road contest to Cazenovia



CAZENOVIA, N.Y. (January 19, 2013) – The Penn State Berks women's basketball team fought back from a 13-point deficit in the second half, but could not complete the comeback bid in an 82-78 loss to Cazenovia College in Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crossover contest. The Nittany Lions (4-10, 3-5 NEAC) led throughout most of the first half and held a 43-40 advantage going into the intermission. The Wildcats (3-12, 3-4 NEAC) used a 13-4 run early in the second half to build a comfortable lead and ahead 71-58 with 8:06 remaining in the game. Berks rallied back were down by two points 71 seconds left after a jumper by Kellie Wilson, but that is as close as the Nittany Lions would get.

Shanelle Koch had a team-high 21 points and a personal-best nine rebounds, while playing in all 40 minutes of the game. Keisha Robinson, who also did not spend any time on the bench, recorded the first double-double of her career with 15 points and 10 boards. Wilson and Nichole Young-Trapp finished with 16 and 10 points, respectively, rounding out the Nittany Lions in double figures.

Megan McDermott and Erin O'Malley accounted for more than half of the Wildcats total points and rebounds. McDermott scored 24 points and pulled down 22 rebounds, while O'Malley had 23 points and eight boards. Haley Zambito hit three 3-pointers and finished with nine points.

The Nittany Lions will finish off their weekend road trip with a NEAC crossover at Morrisville State College on Sunday, January 20 at 12 p.m.
