Nittany Lions finish 2-0 in tri-match



READING, PA (September 29, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team finished 2-0 in a tri-match with Alvernia University and Cedar Crest College on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Community Center. (Alvernia Boxscore | Cedar Crest Boxscore)

The three schools have been rotating the hosting duties of the annual tri-match for the past five years. During that time, the Nittany Lions (8-7) sport a 9-1  record and have won eight consecutive matches over Alvernia and Cedar Crest. Berks took the opener over the Crusaders (8-8) by game scores of 25-16, 25-20, 18-25, 25-20 and swept the Falcons 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-18).

In the opener, Kayla Mosser and Cassidy Schultz each recorded 12 kills and combined for half of the teams 48 kills. The pair only committed a total of five errors and finished with a combined .311 hitting percentage. Schultz added seven digs and two service aces.
Sarah Winton had a season-high 10 digs.

Caitlin Scroger had a team-high seven kills and finished with a .583 hitting percentage in the Nittany Lions win over the Falcons (7-8). The freshman middle blocker also assisted on three blocks. Mosser chipped in six kills and freshman Heleanna Davison added five. Katie Sostak led the Nittany Lions with 22 digs.

In the two contests, Sostak combined for 37 digs, followed by Courtney Lucarelli with 32. Abby Musselman recorded 56 assists on the day

The Nittany Lions will travel to DeSales University for a non-conference match on Wednesday, October 3 at 7 p.m.
